I look at my son. I smile. Since being crippled from the day he was brought into this world, his mind has done all the walking for him. Barely 7 years old, his curiosity is impeccable, unmatched by anything I ever had at his age. Whenever we go through the park, he always wants to know why…
I don’t always have an answer for him, so we go and find it. The source of the spring, the home of the foxes, the answers to how feet can smell, and noses can run.
I’ve gotten looks; judging eyes as to why he is so…“undisciplined”.

You were given to me, my human, at a very young age.
You were small, and still so innocent to the struggles of the world.
My job was to protect that innocence. To keep you safe, give you comfort, bring you joy.
I was your caretaker, and over the years I've watched, through glass eyes, you grow up and discover what this world really is.
I watched you struggle, and every fiber of my body longed to comfort you, to tell you that everything will be alright.
But...I can't move.
I couldn't show you my love for you, hug you, tell you that everything will be all right.
